Perfume Fragrance Notes

Perfume Fragrance Notes

Posted by Dear August on

Perfume fragrance notes are the distinct scents or aromas that make up a fragrance profile, which are designed to be experienced in "layers" as the perfume develops over time.

These notes are generally categorised into three types:

Top Notes

The first impression and initial scent you smell immediately after applying your fragrance- these are often lighter scents such as citrus or fresh herbal and fruity scents.

Middle Notes

These are the heart of the fragrance and emerge as the top notes fade. They are typically richer and last upwards of one hour. Florals such as jasmine, spices, and strong green scents like pine are often middle notes in fragrances.

Base Notes

The foundation of fragrance are the base notes and develop towards the end as other notes subside. These are deep, long-lasting and often linger for hours after application.

Popular base notes include woods, such as cedar, musks, and resins such as amber.

How Notes Combine

The blend of these notes creates the full profile and journey of a fragrance. The top notes attract attention, the middle notes build character, and the base notes provide depth and longevity.
