Fragrance for Men & Unisex Perfumes: The Quick Guide

Posted by Jess O'Donnell on

Looking for a men's cologne or a unisex perfume that feels modern, distinctive and easy to wear?

Fragrance is moving beyond traditional gender labels, with more people choosing perfumes based on the notes, mood and personality.

From fresh citrus and woody scents to vanilla, musk, spice and leather, today's men's perfumes offer more choice than ever- and aren't just for men.

They're more gender-neutral or unisex.

The Evolution of Men's Cologne

Men's fragrance is changing. While fresh citrus, aquatic and woody fragrances remain popular, newer releases are exploring more distinctive combinations and unexpected ingredients. The very distinction between cologne and perfume is starting to break-down (because it was silly in the first place!).

Instead of relying on the traditional formula, modern men's fragrances are embracing combinations of "femme" ingredients such as florals and gourmands and combining these with woods, musk, spices and aquatics for something truly remarkable.

These combinations create men's fragrances that feel sophisticated and individual, while remaining easy to wear.

Unisex Perfume

A unisex perfume is a fragrance designed to be worn by anyone- and to be honest, this is what we believe all perfume should be! While certain notes have traditionally been marketed as masculine or feminine, there is nothing inherently gendered about fragrance itself.

Modern fragrances focus on the scent rather than the person wearing it, often combining fresh, green, woody, warm and skin-like notes.

The result is fragrance that feels versatile, contemporary and personal,

Why Are Unisex Fragrances So Popular?

The rise of unisex perfume reflects a broader shift in the way people choose fragrance. Instead of following traditional ideas about what a men's cologne or women's perfume should smell like, people are increasingly looking for scents that suit their individual style- no one wants to be placed in a box.

The same perfume can smell brighter, warmer, creamier or more woody depending on your skin chemistry too- that's part of what makes fragrance personal. It's also why you shouldn't only be trying scents marketed towards your gender- because your body may make something else completely different work best!

Why Do You Still Categorise Mens and Unisex Perfumes?

Because that's what people are searching for online! We only keep these categories to help people find what they're looking for- but we deeply encourage everyone to go outside of labels and instead get acquainted with fragrance notes, in order to find their perfect scent.
